The Prayer of Jesus for You
What we can be comforted in brothers and
sisters is the fact that Jesus will always be with us through trials and
tribulations, through persecutions, through sickness, whatever our walk of
life, Jesus will be with us, We just have to keep our ears and our eyes fixed
upon Him. I think a lot of us think that God just gave His Son to us to get us
out of our problems, and sometimes Jesus does heal us when we are sick and get
us out of certain problems, but a lot of times He allows us to go through these
trials and tribulations to refine us. And He doesn’t let us get away easy.
Remember that Jesus prayed to His Father wanting to NOT go to the cross, He was
pleading if there was ANY other way, please let there be another way (Yet God
didn’t even grant escape from pain even to His only Son) Jesus was a man (who
felt pain and suffering) of course He didn’t want to die and take that
suffering and rejection from His Father, but He did it out of complete
obedience to His Father and out of love for us. I want us to read the prayer of
Jesus today when He prays for Himself, His disciples and for you and me,
because it really shows Jesus’s heart, how He wants to obey His Father, How His
Father and Him are one and How He wants us to be also one with Him. So I’m
going to read from John chapter 17:
Jesus Prays for Himself 17 Jesus spoke
these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the
hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify
You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should
give eternal life to as many as You have given
Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know
You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have
sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the
work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify
Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before
the world was.”
This is just
more proof that IS GOD, He was in existence with His Father BEFORE the entire
world was created… so anyone who is saying that Jesus isn’t worthy to be
worshiped or that He was just born of Mary and didn’t exist BEFORE that, would
be lying to us… SO Jesus goes on to say;
Jesus Prays for
His Disciples 6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You
have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and
they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which
You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the
words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and
have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed
that You sent Me. 9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the
world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.”
Jesus has a very
specific goal, and His goal is not to save the world meaning worldly people,
(Jesus did not come to preserve the worldly way, governments etc…) people that
don’t care about His Kingdom, but He is coming to save those what know they are
sick and know they are in need of a Savior, those who will put their faith in Hi
that will repent and be part of HIS Kingdom, not the kingdom of the world… and
that’s why we see Jesus here saying He doesn’t pray for the world, but for
those whom His Father have given Him..
10 “And all
Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in
them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world,
and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have
given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was
with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You
gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son
of perdition,(that is Judas) that the Scripture might be
fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the
world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have
given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of
the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that
You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from
the evil one.
See, Jesus isn’t
praying that we can just escape the persecution and the problems of the world
but that we could escape the snares of Satan that leads to death, that we would
be a light to people in this world, to all humanity, to all people. Jesus is the one true Light, but He also
makes us lights that’s why Jesus said; “You are the Light of the world, let
your light so shine… So that’s what we want to do here in this world…
16 They
are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them
by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the
world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their
sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. Jesus
Prays for All Believers 20 “I do not pray for these alone, (meaning the 12
disciples) but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;”
In other words He’s praying for YOU, He’s
praying for me, He’ praying for all of those gentiles who are not Jews who will
come into the faith and believe that Jesus is GOD that He is LORD and that He
will wash us clean of our sins.
21 “…that
they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You;
that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent
Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given
them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and
You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may
know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where
I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved
Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous
Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You;
and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to
them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which
You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
So these are the
words of Jesus, His prayer to His Father and this prayer is for you that you
may accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior that you may come into the
truth and love Him, love JESUS with all your heart, soul, mind and strength,
that you may be one also with His Father.
Do you have the love of Jesus in your heart? If you do, you have to come out of sin, come out
of worldliness, come out of the temptations of this world and forsake all. Count the cost to following Jesus, don’t be
ashamed of Him and His words and His gospel.
Turn your back on evil, turn your back on this world and by doing so you
will become one with your Father in heaven, just as Jesus is one with His
Father. May the grace of Jesus be with
you.
